We provide several 90 minute scenic boat tours each day, departing from Tairua and Pauanui. An abundance of marine and bird life, volcanic rock formations, birds and downright beautiful scenery awaits. Our tours are run by professional watermen and proud locals, with a wealth of knowledge on the area. This is a tour for the whole family.

START - Tairua Marina
Meet at Tairua Marina. Tickets must be booked online, prior to arriving at the marina. We can offer tickets on the spot but we can’t guarantee a space on the boat.
Boat Harbour / Taputuatahi bay
Only accessible by boat, this place has provided a safe anchorage for passing vessels. Also a haven for Kiwi and a great stand of Kauri trees. One of NZ's premier mainland pest control success stories.
Aldermen Islands / Ruamaahu
Characterised by it’s distinctive rocky profiles and amazing wildlife, the Aldermen Islands are a favourite. An important nature reserve, it is regarded as one of the best open water dive sites in New Zealand.
Sailor’s Grave / TE KAro bay
Sailors Grave, also known as Te Karo Bay, is a beach north of Tairua, a popular surf and picnic spot, home to the actual site of the Sailors Grave and a coastal walking track.
Shoe ISLAND / MOTUH0A
A beautiful natural island. Largely uninhabited by people. Classified as an area of ‘outstanding natural character’, there’s beautiful rock formations and plenty of marine and bird life. An iconic landmark from Tairua.
SLIPPER ISLAND / Whakahau
A rich Maori history dating back hundreds of years coupled with a strong modern history. From sheep shearing and farming to fierce tribal battles, this wonderful Island has many a story to tell.

Do you provide life jackets?
Yes, definitely. We provide life jackets for all ages. We have first aid and additional safety gear on board at all times.
Can we be picked up from Pauanui?
Yes. Pauanui can be selected as your departure location through the booking platform.
Do you offer private charters or group bookings?
Yes. Contact us directly about designing a personal charter to suit your group. Choose your own destination, time period, and theme. We can also cater charters to Slipper Island based guests. This could include Cathedral Cove, which is just a 25 minute boat trip north of Tairua. Price on application.
Do you offer a water taxi service?
Yes. Contact us here. Transport options available to Slipper Island. Vessel drop off/pick up to local spots by arrangement. Advance notice required, weather dependent. Price on application.

Coromandel Ocean Adventures is a boat tour company based in the beautiful Tairua. Founded by Hayden Smith and Richie McNabb. Both are seriously proud locals, professional watermen and outdoors lovers.
Richie is a third generation boatman from Tairua. His grandad was a local charterman and legendary local figure. With over 10 years commercial experience pearl diving and 20 years ocean experience; Richie brings a wealth of knowledge to the tours.
Hayden Smith, also a local to the area, brings a Masters of Science, majoring in Marine Biology. Also with 5 years pearl commercial diving experience, on top of a life lived close to the ocean and two other boating businesses.
